HIV/AIDS
As the report of HIV/AIDS
in
Nepal
the first case of AIDS was reported in
Nepal
in 1988. Nepal is facing with higher rates of
HIV among the high risk groups like sex working
group, injecting drugs, IDU, and migrants so we
are involved in giving the education to them
specially to the housewife whose husband are
working in abroad for the prevention
of the transmission of HIV/AIDS and to sooth and
encourage to live a life to those affected by it.
The poverty, political
situation and gender inequality and low levels
of education makes us more challenging to
prevent them. Street sex workers, Intravenous
Drug Users (IDU) in the cities have raised day
by day in the country. Behavioral research among
IDU in
Nepal
clearly indicates that the needle sharing is the
common and major risk factor for HIV.
The prevalence in general population of
Nepal
is still low, but is rising rapidly. There are
indications that the transmission among
housewives is increasing. Lack of testing
facilities, counseling, fear of being exposed,
and little use of condoms are the major factors
responsible to the low reporting of HIV/AIDS as
it is estimated that among the 60000 affected
ones only very low percent have reported .Our
volunteers also
counsel, motivate, educate
and support them. The volunteers who are liable
and are ready to cope with this situation can
definitely ameliorate the quality of their life.
